HeartSmartKids helps clinics and communities understand a child’s cardiovascular risks - one child at a time. Because risk for childhood obesity is more than BMI, HeartSmartKids helps families and healthcare providers identify a child's unique risks in order to improve overall cardiovascular health.

We started in 2005, offering an engaging user experience and accurate charting of BMI. Since then, we have pioneered bespoke patient interviewing tools, rolled out numerous physiological screenings, a community resource database, Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) support and participated in several multi-year grants. As a Boulder-based company with a strong Portland, Ore contingent, we incorporate the culture and styles of our cities into our design and attitude. Welcome to HeartSmartKids.
The Science of HeartSmartKids
BMI Percentiles: What does it mean when a doctor says that a child’s BMI is in the 80th percentile? Why don’t they just use BMI as they do with adults?
Why Screen With BMI? Obesity and, to a lesser extent, overweight, is a condition of excess body fat that is strongly associated with medical, psychological, and social problems.
Why Do We Plot BMI During Well-Child Visits? All the national guidelines say that BMI should be calculated and plotted on standard growth charts at every visit.
